Introducing myself

I never thought I would write a blog, but here we are! This is my first official blog post, yay!

Let me start by introducing myself - My name is Madaline Scutta and I am the owner of Madaline Cathleen Designs, located in Beaufort, South Carolina. In February of 2019, I opened my tiny furniture & decor shop in the marketplace of Habersham.

I have my BFA in Fashion Design, from the Savannah College of Art and Design and graduated in 2017. While in college, I took a particular interest in evening wear and couture design techniques. I was able to study under the amazing Evelyn Pappas (best professor and mentor EVER) and was taught not only the foundations of fashion design - but haute couture techniques that are used in the finest altiers around the world.

After graduating, I moved to New York City & lived there for a little over a year. While there, I had the opportunity to work the fashion industry as an intern at both Badgley Mischka and Carolina Herrera (it was as amazing as it sounds)! I also worked at a designer fabric store called Fabrics & Fabrics in the garment district & helped re-launch a new website for them. I ultimately made the decision to move back down south closer to my parents because I hated NYC and the experience was taking more from me than it was giving me.

I have always been an artistic person and have had interests in many things besides fashion design including interior design, drawing, painting, cake decorating, mosaics, jewelry design, architecture, embroidery, weaving, woodworking and much much more!

Ultimately, I wanted to open a shop doing what I love - but not limiting it to just one specialty. I redo furniture, create one of a kind decor pieces, teach classes, make linens, and more. I started painting furniture & fell in love with how fun it was to transform old unwanted pieces. I feel like I am saving pieces that may otherwise be discarded. Below is one of my favorite makeovers!
